Incident: Homicide Investigation Update

On 5/31/22 at approximately 2:55pm Salinas Police Officers responded to the intersection of N. Sanborn Rd. and Del Monte Ave. on a report of a victim of a shooting. On arrival they located 29-year-old Esteban Ocampo suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital however he died as a result of his injuries.

Officers determined that Ocampo was shot following a brief confrontation and that the suspect had fled on foot northbound. Officers were able to determine that the suspect ran into a residence in the 700 block of Kilbreth Ave. Officers surrounded the residence and later took 18-year-old Brian Molina into custody. Molina was later transported to the Monterey County Jail and booked for the homicide.
