A Salinas Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle driving reckless in the area of S. Main Street and W. Acacia Street. The vehicle immediately sped off and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The vehicle fled Southbound on S. Main Street. As the suspect vehicle was approaching Stephanie Drive another vehicle pulled out from Stephanie and onto S. Main Street. The suspect vehicle rear ended the vehicle, and it lost control. The suspect vehicle drove up the curb and continued up the grass area of Gino's Restaurant and into the outdoor dining area. Several patrons in the dining area were struck by the vehicle. Their injuries ranged from minor to serious. None of the injuries appeared life threatening.

The driver fled the scene and witnesses were able to tell officers the direction he ran to. Officers located a 16-year old male in the fields behind the car wash just South of Gino's. The 16-year old was uncooperative with officers and did not provide a statement. The suspect vehicle was registered to the 16-year old's father.
